Clothing, Grooming, Timing...
As your photographer I want you to look your best! Your choice
of clothing will greatly effect the outcome of your portraits.
Clothing should compliment, not dominate the portrait. Busy
patterns, bold stripes and trendy styles over power the people
in the portrait.
Solid colors and classic clothing will create balance in the
tonal range. Everyone should wear either light or medium or
dark colors. This does not mean you all have to wear matching
outfits! The clothing can reflect each person’s individual
taste and style, but everyone should be in the same tonal
range. This will ensure the portrait is more pleasing to the
eye.
Light color clothing: white, cream, faded denim or any pastel
color. Medium color clothing: tan, khaki, postman blue, any
middle range color. Dark color clothing: red, navy, purple,
brown, evergreen and black.
Men: I cannot hide a “five o’clock shadow” so make sure you
shave just prior to the portrait session.
Glasses: If you normally wear glasses, plan to wear the frames
only. It is worth the trouble to borrow a pair of blank frames
from your optometrist. Glare can be impossible to remove from
the portrait.
Individual children’s portraits:
Boys should wear denim blue jeans w/light colored collar shirts.
Girls should wear light to medium colored party dresses.
Please make every effort to be on time. I set a specific time
for lighting purposes. Please be punctual!
